There were shouts of excitement and encouragement coming from the Toowoomba Grammar School pool on Friday as the Wellcamp children took part in their swimming carnival.
The children took part in freestyle, butterfly and breaststroke races. Relays followed for infant, intermediate and senior groups.
The Prep/Year 1 non-swimmers were then invited to take part in a kickboard race. Each child was allocated a Year 6/7 friend who held them tight and kept them safe in the ‘big pool’.
After the excitement had calmed down, Mrs S announced the age champions and the overall winning team. This year it was McKenzie’s turn to win. The narrow margin between the two teams’ scores encouraged Wirth to strive for victory next year.
An excellent roll-up of parent-supporters cheered the swimmers on and everyone obviously had a lovely morning together.
Now all the flippers, kickboards and swimming caps are packed away until next year’s lessons when we return with eagerness and enthusiasm.
