Last Friday four of our year six students attended the National Young Leaders Conference in Brisbane along with three-thousand other student leaders. Our student leaders were given the opportunity to write an application for one of the four positions at the conference and our talented winners were Casey, Jeanie, Taylah and Alex.
At the conference there were a number of wonderful guest speakers including Mike Martin, Executive Director of Halogen Foundation, the sponsor of the event, wildlife and conservation advocate Bindi Irwin, organ donation advocate Coen Ashton, Juliette Wright founder of the charity website ‘Givit’ and James Norton technical advisor and inspiration for the movie ‘Paper Planes’. While listening to these speakers it became apparent that each of them had something in common, they have all had to deal with adversity, setbacks and disappointments in their lives. However they all made the conscious decision to move on and keep trying, never giving up and making the most of their lives to go on and become successful leaders inspiring others.
Our four leaders were able to learn a lot from their experience and they truly enjoyed the day!
This is what out leaders said about the day:
I thought the best thing on the YoungLeaders Day was listening to everybodyspeaking about their life and when thehelium balloons were thrown around theroom.—Taylah
