Harristown Orientation Day

Harristown State High School is holding an Orientation Day on Tuesday 9th December 2014 for all students who have submitted enrolment paperwork to start high school in Year 7 and Year 8 next year.  All enrolled students are expected to attend and to wear their current primary school uniform.  Our canteen will operate on this day for those wishing to purchase food.
This Orientation Day will provide important information to the students.  It will also provide them an opportunity to meet their teachers and other students and potential friends, experience some sample lessons and connect with student Inter-year Leaders who many would have already met through the group interview processes.  Our goal on the day is to help students feel comfortable and confident about starting high school.
Incoming Year 8 students are to meet at 8.15am in the Yellow Gym, directly opposite the bus interchange in Hennessy Street.  Parking is available in Stephen and Hennessy Streets as well as behind the bus interchange. Students can be collected from this point at 2.30pm.
Incoming Year 7 students are to meet at 8.15am in the Auditorium in South Street.  Students can be collected from this point at 2.15pm.  Parking is available in South and Burton Streets near the entrance to the Auditorium.  The idea of having the students assemble in two different areas of the school is to limit traffic congestion.
Parent/carers are welcome to participate in the morning program until 10am, although this is not an expectation.  Morning tea will be available for parent/carers in the foyer of the auditorium after this time.  The P&C Shop will be open from 8.15am until 3.15pm for the payment of fees, purchase of uniforms and stationery.
Don’t forget that those who have paid the full student resource scheme fee by 1pm on this day will be in the draw for a prize of either a full refund of the student resource scheme fee or a sports uniform.  The draws for Year 7 and Year 8 will be held just prior to the end of Orientation Day.
We look forward to welcoming your children again and to working with them to reassure them about starting the next step in their educational journey.
It is essential that students be enrolled prior to this day to enable them to participate.  Please phone 46368700 and ask for Kath if you have any questions.
