Whilst the Year 2 – 7 children were off on camp, the Prep/Year 1 children had some excitement of their own. They took part in a Bicycle Safety Day.
The children’s bikes or scooters were brought to school, along with their helmets. Mrs McDonald and Ms Dowe set up a course on the tennis court complete with Road Safety Signs and Traffic lights. The children rode around the course paying attention to the Road Rules.
Senior Constable Rob, our Adopt-a-Cop came to inspect the bikes and scooters and checked for the correct usage of helmets. He and the Police Volunteer Worker Sue, tested the brakes and tyres, and tightened helmets. They also gave a talk about being sensible when riding and handed out some stickers. The children completed a worksheet as well.
At the end of the day, all the children had their Bicycle Safety checklist presented to them as a reward for a good day of fun and learning. Another happy day at Wellcamp State School!
